Voting Rights
Know Your Rights!
Voters with disabilities have important rights under federal and Vermont law, including the right to vote independently and privately, access polling places, request reasonable accommodations, and receive assistance when needed.
✓ Vote independently and privately
✓ Use accessible voting equipment
✓ Receive assistance from a person of their choice
✓ Request accommodations at the polls
✓ Cast a ballot free from discrimination
✓ Vote early, by mail, or from home
✓ Vote from a facility or if you are homeless
Accessible Voting in Vermont
Vermont polling places are equipped with accessible voting technology that allows many voters with disabilities to mark and cast a ballot independently and privately.
The state’s accessible voting system, OmniBallot, can be used with assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnification, voice control software, alternative keyboards, and other accessibility tools.
Voters can use these features to review and mark their ballot independently before printing and returning it according to election instructions.
Accessible voting equipment and accommodations are available to help ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.

Need Help?
Through the Protection and Advocacy for Voting Access (PAVA) program, Disability Rights Vermont works to protect and advance the voting rights of people with disabilities. We provide information, advocacy, training, and assistance to help ensure that voters with disabilities can access the ballot box independently and privately.
If you have questions about voting rights, need help obtaining accommodations, encounter barriers at your polling place, or experience disability-related discrimination while voting, Disability Rights Vermont may be able to help.
